Rev. Fr. Godfrey Uchechukwu Nwankwo, MSP, who was popularly known as father-father by friends and admires was born to Mr. and Mrs. Nwankwo Osii, of Isamaigbo village, Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. He attended Udoka Primary School Agulu and later Boys High School Agulu.

On October 28th 1992, father-father began his training for the missionary priesthood in the Missionary Seminary of St. Paul at Iperu Remo Ogun State.  He completed his seminary training in July 2001, bagging a degree in Theology with Summa Cum Lauda (First Class Honors).  He was the first and only one yet to achieve such a feat in the history of the Seminary as at his death.

On the 7th of July Same year he was ordained a priest of the Missionary Society of St. Paul, by Bishop Joseph Fiorenza, of Galveston-Houston Diocese, Houston, Texas.

In September 2001, he joined the formation team of the Iperu campus of the National Missionary Seminary of St. Paul for his pastoral year as a priest.  While awaiting his first mission assignment, which was to be due later that year.  The usually hardworking father-father was at his duty post when the cold claws of death shot live out of him from injuries sustained in car accident on 25th February 2002.

Fr. Godfrey Nwankwo was a very calm and gentle young man.  He was very dedicated and hardworking in every post of responsibility he was ever assigned as seminarian and as a priest.  He Remained conscientious and assiduous such that he spared no effort in ensuring that whatever responsibility he was put he gave his best.  In all these, he preferred to remain un-sung. When I congratulated him on his excellent performance in the Bachelor of Divinity examination, he responded lightly that he felt God just wanted to honor him.

The seminary formation team recognized his sterling leadership qualities when they made him the senior Auxiliary (head Prefect) for the 2000/2001 academic session.  As an individual and as a class, we weep bitterly for the sudden and tragic passing away of our brother, friend and classmate, father-father, just barely after seven months of ordination.  No doubt this is a painful loss to the Missionary Society of St. Paul as she has missed the contributions of this dynamic and committed young priest would have made to the apostolic mission.

As we mourn this irreparable loss, we surrender to the will of the Almighty father, whom we believe is able to console us, members of the Missionaries of St. Paul, his biological family, and Fr. Godfrey's numerous friends and admirers.  Dear confrere and friend, father-father, may your gentle soul rest in peace.  We know you are safe in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ.  That is our comfort that is our consolation.
